Recently, I was contacted by a local family doctor who told me about his lovely 99 year old patient (pictured on right), who is not doing well and likely has only weeks left to live. He was surprised to find out that she heard about my endeavors on social media/television and wished to meet me before her passing. He contacted me via email and together, this evening we made it happen. I spent about an hour with her and her best friend learning about their lives and sharing my story. They have been incredibly close friends for 8 years and do not leave each other’s sides. Her friend (pictured on left) has been extremely sad that her best friend is dying, as she is worried about being lonely. However, she understands that her best friend’s comfort is more important than her surviving but suffering. It was extremely moving to spend time with them all while learning about their travels and adventures (she came to America on a 14 day journey via ship from Germany in 1938!). I received some excellent advice about life and about being a good doctor. In the end they thought taking a picture together would be an excellent way to memorialize our meeting. We ended with a hug and promise that I would come back with a copy of people magazine so that she may cut out the picture of "The Sexiest Doctor Alive", hanging it on her wall and sharing it with her friends at the assisted living facility. Many of you see a title like this as something improper for a Physician to accept. I believe, If handled correctly even something as silly as being labeled "sexy" can be used in a positive way to help others. Like I’ve said before: Instead of constantly sitting and spotting negativity in the world, stand up, be proactive, and do something positive.". #lovemyjob
